Ive already mentioned the next up in my introduction post it super coder SecondVersion aka SV or Eric. Another Moderator for Namepros. I adore this guy he was one of the first members I got chatting to. He has an effortless talent for coding and stuff I don't even understand. Good Morning

Well that place over the other side of the big pond called the USA is awaking to a new president. Whether you wanted Obama to win or not... You are the *UNITED* states, world leaders and a fine, fine country. I have had the pleasure to meet and chat to many american people over the years and even though you lot can't spell correctly things like colour :p, and you dont eat spotted dick and custard, you are lovely kind folk. I hope he brings your country all he has promised and more. One thing that clearly showed in his very fine winning speech was the love for his family...I hope they all are very happy in that little white house along with a new puppy hehe.

Appraisals

Love em or hate em, some people crave appraisals of their names. I would strongly suggest you NEVER pay for appraisals and any emails or offers to appraise for money, decline. I really do beleive that as you learn domaining you get a *feel* for names and just being around the market, start to get to know what names are worth. Its always nice to know what other domainers *think* about your names but I deeply think you can never really appraise a name completely. Ok ... You may often hear the terms reg fee, end-users, flip fee, trade price and many more... But basically, the end price is IMO in the buyer. What you paid for it .. is what it is worth until you find a buyer that wishes to pay more .End-Users are there but they are the luxury we are all looking for (tips later). You can make a quick buck finding gems and selling them to other re-sellers but always remember re-sellers are there to re=sell. Its always fun going to sites that offer free appraisals but please only ever use this as a guide or light hearted as these are not normally acuarate. If you have ever spoken to me or have seen me around in np chat (this I will cover later hehe), then you will know I dont really appraise. I will say if I think a name fits the extention or if the name suits the development needs or if the name sounds cool etc but you can never really predict a buyer. There are other things you need to take into consideration when looking at the price of a name if you dig alittle deeper. Has the name ever been registered or developed before? Does the name get any traffic? Does the name have any backlinks? As you can see just asking for an appraisal is not clean cut,, you really need to get full analysis before you give a blanket $. If you would like to see if there is any history with a potential name its worth looking here at the way back machine http://www.archive.org/web/web.php You may also wanna see if the name has any back links.. http://www.iwebtool.com/backlink_checker these will increase traffic but beware I will cover pump and dump later as not all traffic is real. ((hehe keep with me I did say domining wasn't easy) LOL. You may also want to check the name has never been blacklisted as a spam name or google banned . http://www.mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx . http://www.iwebtool.com/google_banned So as you see appraisals are not as easy as they first appear. Yes names like hotels.com travel.com, business.com sex.com loans.com etc etc will always be easier but these names are gems not needing appraisals. Have a look always before you buy. Does the name have any history http://www.hosterstats.com/ .

Introduction Into Domaining

Good Morning *insert cheeky grin* Well I guess if Im gonna be giving any kind of tips on domaining I'd better start with explaing for those that dont know what it is, what it is hehe. Taken from wikipedia (great site),

"Domaining is the business of buying, selling, developing and monetizing Internet domain names not for primary use as a website, but with the goal of profit generation with the intent of resale, like real estate. The noun form is domainer. A domainer is a person who engages in domaining".

Before you even begin to start, you would be wise to take a deep breath, lean back and read.. read more and when you think you are ready to invest.. read some more. I have already mentioned namepros.com in my first post, well this is a place where not only can you meet some of the coolest domainers around, (umm actually some very wacky people also), More on them later :p but all the information you could ever need is right there. Before you even think of registering a name ask yourself why you are buying it?. What are your plans for it?. Its so very easy to reg like mad but if you really dont understand the market, you could end up with a pile of poo poo *shit* for grown ups, that you will find hard to re-sell or develop. Ok.. when you think that you would like to dip those toes in the big pond and register a name you need somewhere to register it. I personally have names all over but have learnt cheaper is not always better. I will at a later date look more closely at different registras but at this point I would just advise you that many places have discount codes, something I was not aware of for my first registration. These codes can save you oodles of money. One example of this is Godaddy.com *I can hear the groans* There is a super long thread over at Namepros.com which is updated regular by the lovely members there ~ http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/479933-godaddy-discount-code-com-names-now.html?highlight=godaddy+codesRenewals are also costly so these codes are like gems. At this point I would like to make you aware of TM names (Trade Marked), A trademark or trade mark, identified by the symbols ™ and ®, and you would be wise to run a mile from these names as the legal fines could be massive, not a great idea. If you are unsure if a name has a trade mark or not you could check here http://www.uspto.gov/main/trademarks.htm or here http://www.ipo.gov.uk/tm.htm. Remember domaining is world wide and although we all know .com,org,net,info, there are many many cctld, country code top-level domain,. You can find a list of those here http://www.iana.org/domains/root/db Dont forget to research each extentions terms of conditions as you may not be eligible to register them. Here I would just like to suggest you say the name outloud ~ Does it sound right and does it fit the extention. By this I mean I adore .info but not all names actually fit the extention for example, something brandable like noodleninja may go great with a .com but imo .info is for information i.e geo, (geographical) one worders names etc, One last word or warning from me today.. (ive rambled enough), is check the spelling before you register it. Its so very easy to make this mistake especially when drunk LOL. Alot to take in i know thats why I said read, read and read more hehe. Domaining is a great hobby for me and I know many whom its a full time job but I can not advise you enough to research it before you spend your pennies. Hopefully over the comming days, months or even years *gulp* I will share with you some more tips and maybe even save you some money.
